What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a therapeutic system of diagnosis and treatment which addresses structural and mechanical dysfunctions of the body. It is both science and healing art. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners and are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

The Problem

Problems can arise either through direct trauma and injury or an accumulation of layers of tension.

The whole body works in state of dynamic balance, tension in one area will have to be compensated for throughout the whole body, problems often arise when the body is having to adapt to multiple layers. Osteopaths are skilled in determining the cause of a problem and why it has arisen.

The Treatment

The body always wants to be in a healthy and balanced state and expends a lot of energy in trying to maintain this

Using their sense of touch, the Osteopath gently reads the tension and strain patterns in the whole body, guiding and supporting them to work with this desire to be healthy in order help the body deeply relax, reset and relieve the symptoms.

The Results

You feel better!

There are many factors that affect how the body responds to treatment, relief may be experienced straight away, though sometimes the process of change take days and even weeks. By addressing the underlying causes of a problem, the aim is for long term relief. Your Osteopath may also give you advice regarding lifestyle or exercise in order to help prevent recurrences.
