Frequently Asked
Questions

  • New patient appointments last around 60 minutes, this so that we can take time to take a detailed case history as well as examine and treat. Follow up appointments are 30 minutes.

  • The complexity of each individual case will often be a guide for how many sessions are required. A recent study showed the average number of 3-4 visits to an Osteopath for a given problem, there are a lot of factors that may affect this though, your Osteopath will be able to give you a better indication after your initial consultation.

  • The techniques we use are at most gentle end of the osteopathic spectrum, treatment does not involve forcing the body to move and we generally do not use manipulations (i.e. cracking/ clicking a joint). Occasionally, patients may experience some discomfort during treatment, we encourage patients to talk to the Osteopath and communicate this as we can then do all we can to help make you more comfortable.

  • It usually takes the body 2-3 days to process a treatment, though this can be shorter or longer. It’s not always possible to say exactly how you will feel but your Osteopath will be able to give you more information at the time of treatment.

  • If symptoms are worse after a treatment this is not neccesarily a bad thing and can be a sign of the body being in a process of change. If you have concerns or if any reactions haven’t settled after 48 hours, please get in contact and speak to one of our team.

  • You may, if comfortable, be asked to undress down to your underwear just for the initial examination, this is usually only for the first consultation. Treatment is generally done fully clothed. Your comfort is a priority, so please communicate with us at the time if you feel uneasy about this.

  • Loose, comfortable clothing is easier and more comfortable for us to work with than heavy tight jeans and thick belts.

  • We treat babies days old, so whenever you feel ready and able. If there has been intervention such as forceps or ventouse, if the birth has been traumatic, then the sooner the better. This doesn’t however mean that it is ever too late to bring your baby or child in for treatment.

  • Of course! We make every effort to make this as easy as possible, mothers who are breast-feeding are welcome to feed in the waiting room, however, if you would prefer a private room please ask as we are usually able to accommodate this. Alternatively if you would like some milk warmed up, please ask one of our receptionists.

  • We welcome all children to the practice, and every effort is made to make the practice as child-friendly as possible. Toys and books are available in all treatment rooms, but if your child has a favourite book please feel free to bring it along. Parents and carers should be prepared to entertain their child during treatment.

  • We are often busy and have a waiting list for appointments, so ask for as much notice as possible for any cancellations but a minimum of 24 hours (please see our cancellation policy). If you are running late, then please call our reception team asap.

  • Yes, Children under the age of 16 should always be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Anyone is more than welcome to bring someone with them though.

  • We have full wheelchair access throughout the ground floor, including to the downstairs toilet. The toilet is not fully disabled but is spacious, has good access and grab rails to assist you.
